Applied Methods Inc (hereafter “Applied”) is an analytics company on a mission to develop data
driven product solutions to the Grand Challenges for Engineering in the 21st Century as proposed
by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Applied is currently developing a solution to the challenge – “Advancing Health Informatics”.
The first challenge requires solutions that address problems in the acquisition and
management and use of information in health. The specific topic that Applied will address within
the challenge domain is the conversion of health insurance coverage data into useful information
about healthcare financing and organization.
Applied’s first product, “Broker Methods”, converts health insurance data into strategic information for
Wholesalers, Administrators, and Brokers. Broker Methods integrates health insurance data of different types
from multiple sources across an enterprise. Presently, many Brokers use transactional systems to manage
data on one part of the business and manual processes to perform strategic and routine analysis for
both the broker and the client. Rising customer demand for better insurance cost information and the
recent healthcare reform law have created a product gap for efficient analysis that serves both the
broker and the client. Broker Methods fills the gap.
